For this research I will look into lighting for my second question. Lighting is key to successful music videos as there would be no point to them if you cant see what is meant to be shown by the camera. In the music video ' 21 Guns' by Green Day, straight away you can see the background light on the desk and a few cuts later you have lateral light, which is the light from behind the object. This object is in actual fact a bullet which has its obvious connotations of death and murder.
As you can see in the above picture the light from behind the bullet is effective as it adds emphasis to the object on show, in the instance the bullet. Furthermore, later on in the video the use of the mystery light is effective as we don't know where it is coming from even though it is under the girl. In Linkin Parks video ' New Divide' they use light but this time from above them so the light is shining down on their faces. They also use negatives on the face in different shots which makes the video look abstract.
